Her Feather Echoed Their Bubbly Spirit

Delta 3200, EI 3200.

Look at that, I can still shoot, develop, scan and post! Will wonders never cease.

I don’t usually like shooting Delta 3200 over 1600, but the lighting in this room really wasn’t up to the task – and my wedding policy is generally “don’t take more gear than the wedding photographer.” For our friends’ wedding, I carried the Mamiya 7 and a cheap 1970s flash. I wound up shooting 6 rolls of Delta 3200 and 10 of HP5. (So much for “I’ll take them, but I won’t sh …[more]

After hastily parking, the driver departed.

Acros 100, EI 100.

Apologies for the hiatus – been catching up developing an insane backlog of film. I’ve just about caught up to July — and after three more rolls, I’m done with E-6. At least for now; I *do* still have another liter of unmixed chemistry sitting around…

Stars, because it looks like stars

Kodak e100g.

From Abington High’s fireworks last night. Titled by a 5-year-old, upon request, as it was his choice to go to the fireworks last night; this is the first year he’s been interested (and not scared of the loud noise). I might have titled it “Stars and Stripes.”

Yes, he loved them!

He watched the Earth fly past.

From the old to the new! I’ve been slowly stepping through cameras of the 20th century – 1930s and 40s Voigtländers, 1950s Ricohs. Well, my two Ricoh Diacords failed while at a workshop, which left me wanting gear that was more reliable. So upon my return, I repaired both Diacords and started scouring ebay for something quiet and reliable.

And this is from a test roll (HP5, ei400) out of my new Mamiya 7.

She stared, wondering what he saw.

Provia 400x on the Diacord G.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending a workshop lead by David Hilliard. Great guy, fantastic work, and a good teacher; the weekend was quite enjoyable and informative. I came out of this weekend with a stronger sense of where I’m going, photographically.

I also know that the long-term plan doesn’t involve the Diacord G or L, sadly. Both let me down during the photo shoot that lead to this im …[more]

And she slept under the trees.

Delta 3200, EI3200.

This weekend I’ll be in Woodstock for a photo workshop. Which means I’m packing up photo gear. Which means I’ve built a travel version of my film dryer. Here’s hoping it works. And doesn’t melt. 🙂

Southern German Meets Center City Chic

Ilford HP5, ei400.

Obviously, this is a crop of a 6×6 (given that it’s from the Diacord L). It works much better in this aspect ratio than its original. I like a lot about this shot (it may be my favorite HP5 shot), and it’s also a gateway shot for a project I’ve started defining.

Here’s this guy, whose fashion is more Tirolean (shades of Lederhosen) with a modern bike and a pair of iPod headphones. I can’t tell if he’s from 1940 or 2010 except for the hints of modern trends a …[more]

Standing, he compared their fancy footwear.

Ilford HP5+, ei400.

Last night my highest-precision thermometer died. Alas, no color development without it. Will have to order another (wanted to do that anyway). Fortunately my cameras are currently loaded with HP5 and Efke IR film so I can do a bit of B&W while I’m waiting for the replacement…

Conscientious

Yes, yes, back to the B&W. I have a few nice color shots I’d like to post, but I’m also working on a new series and would like to finish it off first.

Looking at this I long for B&W – particularly Ilford HP5 (which this is, ei400). I planned to shoot some IR (Efke) today… and left my IR filter at home. I suppose there’s always tomorrow.

She Got In and Wouldn’t Leave

Okay, okay! For those clamoring for color – here ya go. Velvia 100F.

And for the record, I’m planning to buy more slide film for next month. I just can’t let 3 liters of developer go to waste. 🙂 From my generally unscientific tests, I’ve settled primarily on Kodak e100g; it has the best color cast to my eyes. Which, I’ll remind everyone, are red/green color blind.

Opening #2

… another from the opening at Gallery 14. Show’s still on until May 30th.

And I’m almost out of E-6 slide film. Even though I’ve decided that it’s a waste of my time to process (and I’ll be taking it to Philadelphia Photographics once my chemistry’s used up), I’ll probably wind up buying some more E-6 film (to use up that chemistry). Which means at least another month of E-6 (I’m about 40% …[more]

What’s In a Name?

Third in the series from the gallery opening at Gallery 14.

I believe I found the limit on the E-6 chemistry today; at about 12 rolls, the first liter of first developer formed a white precipitate. Used it anyway, of course, and it was fine but I’m sure this state change signals the beginning of the end. So I’ve mixed up my second batch. Only three more batches to go.

Some slight troubles, btw, on the camera front. The 1938 Bessa 66 is still out for repair; the other 1930s Bes …[more]

A second shot from the opening – or, more specifically, the “meet the photographers” event just after.

Delta 3200, EI 3200.

I’ve been working on some new material; it’s taking a lot longer than expected. I decided that May would be “E-6 month” and have been shooting almost exclusively E-6… and processing it myself, which is the time drain. Conclusion: not worth the trouble; I’ll stick to C-41 if I want color. But I’ve got 10 rolls still waiting to be developed, another 10 in …[more]
