Mochitsuki

Delta 3200 in Xtol.

From the 2011 Mitsuwa rice pounding (“Mochitsuki”) and Lion Dance in New Jersey.

I’ve also got three rolls of Pro 160S that are heading out to Miller’s Lab for them to develop and scan. Hopefully they came out as well as the B&W shots; it was quite dim, and I’m always nervous about shooting slower than 400 speed film in that kind of light.

The lion dance performance was fantastic. The Mochi performance was energetic, but seemed less organized than t …[more]

Super Powers

One of the most wonderful parts of visiting family in Germany was watching Jake interact with all of them. Like this superhero battle, where (seemingly) Spider-Man is doing battle with Lava Boy [sic].

Harvest Festival Hayfight

Finally catching up on a boatload of scanning, and I keep finding stuff I like. Like this one of Jake and me having a hayfight at the Harvest Festival a few weeks ago.

Where Did I Leave That Statue?

Proving that I’m still alive (or that some clever facsimile thereof is able to post to my photoblog): Acros 100 + Microphen. Which, should you try to Google for it, The Goog will auto-correct to “Microphone.”

This combination of film + developer is off the charts for me. The tonal range, contrast, and incredibly fine grain really pop. I suspect you’ll see more of this combo…

Hiding

Portra 800, I believe. (I’d have to go find the film to be sure, but it has the right look to me.) Take a look at the larger version; the smaller one looks a little out of focus for some reason. Let her stare in to your very being…

Her Feather Echoed Their Bubbly Spirit

Delta 3200, EI 3200.

Look at that, I can still shoot, develop, scan and post! Will wonders never cease.

I don’t usually like shooting Delta 3200 over 1600, but the lighting in this room really wasn’t up to the task – and my wedding policy is generally “don’t take more gear than the wedding photographer.” For our friends’ wedding, I carried the Mamiya 7 and a cheap 1970s flash. I wound up shooting 6 rolls of Delta 3200 and 10 of HP5. (So much for “I’ll take them, but I won’t sh …[more]

After hastily parking, the driver departed.

Acros 100, EI 100.

Apologies for the hiatus – been catching up developing an insane backlog of film. I’ve just about caught up to July — and after three more rolls, I’m done with E-6. At least for now; I *do* still have another liter of unmixed chemistry sitting around…

Stars, because it looks like stars

Kodak e100g.

From Abington High’s fireworks last night. Titled by a 5-year-old, upon request, as it was his choice to go to the fireworks last night; this is the first year he’s been interested (and not scared of the loud noise). I might have titled it “Stars and Stripes.”

Yes, he loved them!

He watched the Earth fly past.

From the old to the new! I’ve been slowly stepping through cameras of the 20th century – 1930s and 40s Voigtländers, 1950s Ricohs. Well, my two Ricoh Diacords failed while at a workshop, which left me wanting gear that was more reliable. So upon my return, I repaired both Diacords and started scouring ebay for something quiet and reliable.

And this is from a test roll (HP5, ei400) out of my new Mamiya 7.
