Hmm. Wonder where I’ve seen these folks before…
A break from pumpkin picking for a quick science lesson! I think, from the boys’ perspective, it went something like “Look, slugs!”
Combining nature, kids, and Jake, here starts a series from the Penn Vermont Fruit Farm last month. Look for guest appearances from other Philly Photobloggers and their kids…
Also from Rittenhouse Square. John (from Yesterday) is the guitarrist; this was actually my first shot of the scene. I liked the interplay between the kid and mom. I would have preferred moving the Vitamin Water out of the way first, but didn’t have a way to do that without disturbing the scene; the mom did approve of the shot before I took it, though. Nonverbal communication rocks.
I’m going back through my piles of unprocessed shots, and this one struck me. I’m not sure what was going on – no flash, in that position in the living room, but with a catchlight in his eye and something glowing behind him? The quality of light makes this one for me – but probably because I’m wondering what in the heck I did…
Hard to believe, but yes, this is the same kid as the previous photo. I can just see him as a teenager in this shot.
I wish the water spray had been a bit more pronounced. As it is, it gives me something to look at in the negative space up in the upper-right – but more would be better. His shadow pulling me down into the red is also welcome.
And here’s “The Team”. Just one family member (and one family feline) missing!
The Colorado River, I decided, was central to the trip. It should also be prominent in the shot, as much as possible. This vantage point, with us huddled on one side of the shot, gives your eye enough time to go look at what’s going on. And there it is, poking its high-contrast head in near center frame.
Of interest might be that I didn’t take this shot. Jake’s holding a wireless remote. I have abou …[more]
A long exposure, best viewed large. I’m not too fond of the grass in the foreground, but it does give some extra depth to the shot.
I don’t remember if Jake was mad at me, or just demonstrating his deadly karate skills – either way, it made for some fun photography!
Jake, staring at the poodle balloon that Balloon Man had just made for him.
This is “Balloon Man”, John Duke, from Santa Fe, NM. John is a stand-up comedian and apparently loves walking around Santa Fe making balloon animals for kids. Jake and I spent the better part of a day walking around with him. I can’t say that it wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t been to the Next Step workshop this year, but I approached the situation from a different angle than I would have before. This is certainly one of the highlights of our vacation.
From Jim Thorpe’s 2009 St. Patty’s parade. I wish I could have worked this longer, but the parade started moving just after. The mirror isn’t lending to the shot at all (either finding an angle without the mirror, or putting the girl into the reflection, would have been grand).
Jake, in awe of some cool aircraft or other. And as promised, the rest of the series are now on FlickR.
